HISTORY

In 1326, Robert the Bruce bought part of lands of Pillanflatt which were in the parish of Cardross from the Earl of Lennox. He died in 1329 in the manorial house that he built in the area. It is believed that the Mains of Cardross is where his royal manor was located.

ATTRACTIONS

Geilston Garden – a property of the National Trust for Scotland. The garden is located on the north-west of the village.

A ruined church – this is located on the road passing by Cardross from Dumbarton, a nearby town. The church was mistakenly bombed during the Second World War as it was thought to be a famous shipyard in Clydebank.

Listed Buildings

St Mahew's Chapel – dates back to the 14th century and was restored in the 1950s as a Catholic Church.
 
St Peter's Seminary (formerly) – located to the north of the village. This is closed to the public and its future is uncertain as well. It was abandoned in the late 1980s.

Kilmahew Castle – a 15th-century ruined castle built by the Napier clan. The castle is located to the north of the village.

TRANSPORTATION

The railway station in Cardross has direct links to Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh Waverley stations on the North Clyde Line. First ScotRail operates the station.

Bus services in the village are provided by First Glasgow.
