The first record of Aspley Guise is in 969 where King Edgar (the Peaceable) granted 15 hides to his thegn Alfwold.
By 1086, the Domesday Book listed the parish having 25 household, five of which were for serfs. Aspley was recorded as covering a large tract of agricultural land and was held by Leofeva of Earl Waltheof before the conquest. Acard of Ivry was the contemporary manor owner.
During the medieval period, much of the cultivated land was held by Aspley Manor.
