Flower Delivery to Lidlington - A Small Yet Charming Village in Central Bedfordshire
With Marston Vale farmland surrounding this small village and civil parish in Central Bedfordshire, being in Lidlington gives one a good feel of what country life is but is not as remote as it seems. There are about 500 houses in the village with a small population of roughly 1,300 voters. However, it has a general store, a village hall and a daily doorstop milk and newspaper delivery service. For people who live fast-paced lives and want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, this is an ideal holiday destination.
Lidlington lies between the A507 Ampthill to Woburn road and the main A421 Bedford to Milton Keynes. Meanwhile, north of the parish is the Cranfied Airport which is where training flights are held and also used by small aircraft. Located on the Southern part of the vale’s basin, this parish also includes the two hamlets, Boughton End and Thrupp End while the village lies adjacent to the Millbrook Proving Ground which contains a circular track.
A Brief History of Lidlington
Lidlington was in an entry written in John Marius Wilson’s Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales dated from 1870-1872. It was described as a village and parish in Ampthill district. During the circa of 1086, it was known as Lilincletone and during the 13th century, it had the names Lutlingeton, Lillingeston and Lytlington as well as Lutlyngton in 14th century. As compiled in the Domesday Book in 1247, Lidlington was held by the Abbess of Barkway and for centuries, the ancient manors of the village have been owned by several families up until the 19th century when these manors were made part of the Woburn estate.
Modern Lidlington
Visitors and locals of Lidlington can enjoy birdwatching and fishing in Brogborough Lake, also referred to as Lidlington Lake. Located at the edge of the village, other activities like paddle surfing and wind surfing can also be enjoyed here. There is also the landfill site, the Brogborough Landfill site which was the largest of its kind in Europe.
If you want to enjoy an early morning or afternoon walk, there is the Lidlington railway station which gives a good access to the Greensand Ridge, a long distance footpath. This can be a lovely activity to enjoy with loved ones and see the beautiful sights, including Lidlington flowers and trees. Another interesting site to visit is located west of the village, the business park which is also the location of Amazon.com UK. It is known as Lidlington pit. This old Lidlington Brick Works is now a reclaimed area called the Forest of Marston Vale. Birdwatchers can call this nature reserve with wetlands and woodlands a haven.
For the family, there is the Woburn Safari Park nearby, the largest drive-through safari park in England. The Woburn Estate is centred on Woburn abbey which belongs to the family of the Duke of Bedford. Apart from being the home to some flowers in Lidlington, the safari park also cuddles African wildlife, including lions and tigers.
