Flower Delivery to Bucklebury with Clare Florist
Located in West Berkshire, Bucklebury is a civil parish and village that is found around 5 miles to the north-east of Newbury and is located close to the A4. The parish of Bucklebury has a population of over 2,000 (as of the last official census) but the population of the village is notably smaller. There is a historic common in the village, Bucklebury Common, and it is one of the prized and prestigious commons in the county of Berkshire.
Bucklebury can be split into three parts with the village, located on the Pang River, is one of these components. There is also the Bucklebury Common which is found to the south of Bucklebury village. The Common is held under the Inclosure Acts, and it is privately owned although it is open to villages. On the eastern element of the Common is Chapel Row, which is a road containing a number of popular and well-known local stores.
There is also the village of Upper Bucklebury, which is the biggest residential section in the parish, and this contains a number of more modern stores than other areas of the parish. There are a number of major estates and country homes in Bucklebury with Bucklebury Manor being one of the biggest attractions. There are a number of listed buildings in the parish and the large Georgian Mansion on Pease Hill is well known for miles around. One of the most common activities in the area which has endured over the centuries is wooden bowl making and this is still an activity which is being carried out on or close to the common, using wood found in the common. There was a largescale clearing of the common during the Second World War to provide space to station the troops. There were a number of concrete paths installed in the commons at this time which are still in place, although many of these paths are now used as a bridleway.
The common itself is an elevated common with a small number of clearings and a large area of woodland. Bucklebury Common is found 3 miles from Thatcham and it completely circles Chapel Row and Upper Bucklebury. It is one of the biggest commons you will find in the south of England, its expanse covering over 350 hectares, which equates to around 860 acres. Bucklebury Manor Estate is the private owner of the commons but the Countryside and Rights of Way Act of 2000 installed a public right of way in the common.
Bucklebury has also enjoyed success with a number of local beer festivals in recent years. These events have seen around 20 local community and trader groups set up stands, and with lovely music accompanying the plentiful beer and cider tasting, there has been a tremendous atmosphere. The event has evolved over the years with a number of artisan bread and cheese producers joining in the fun while the addition of Pimms ensured that there was an alcoholic treat in store for those that weren’t too keen on enjoying beer or cider. The event usually helps to raise money for a local charity, so there is a positive element attached to having fun and supporting local traders.
