Flower Delivery to Eton by Clare Florist
Eton and Windsor are twin cities. However, Eton is mostly forgotten save for the presence of a very prestigious institution that has educated many of England's politicians, judges and diplomats. Smaller than Windsor, Eton is separated from the ancient town by the River Thames and connected to it by the Windsor Bridge.
Eton is much more than just a place that is well-known for housing one of the best educational institutions in the entire world. In fact, this is a town where you'll find such beauty that is dotted with equally fine historic buildings.
Given the rather ancient charm of the town, it makes for a great place to go on a romantic stroll. The day can even be made better when you send flowers to Eton as a surprise for your date.
History of Eton
The name Eton is derived from the Old English Eatun which means Town on the River Thames.
Eton was once part of the manor of Queen Edith, the wife of Edward the Confessor. It was appropriated by the Normans after 1066.
Henry VI chose Eton as the location for his new college, Eton College, in 1440.
The Royalist Army moved to Eton after Windsor Castle was captured by parliamentarian forces during the Civil War. Although they tried to retake Windsor, they were unsuccessful and eventually fled.
As an act of charity, Eton College would sometimes lease small plots of land to the village. This is the reason that led to the construction of homes near the bridge.
Eton entered into a phase of modernisation and was the first village in the UK to have a post office and drainage system.
By 1925, Eton was more commercial than residential with majority of the buildings being businesses that catered to students at the college.

Savill Gardens – an enclosed part of Windsor Great Park that includes woodland, ornamental areas and a pond. You need an entrance fee to get in, but the collection of flowers in Eton is worth it. Some of the best features of the garden are the New Zealand Garden, the Queen Elizabeth Temperate House and the trees planted by the Royal Family.
Valley Gardens – 220 acres of botanical garden that contains lots of varieties of blooms including azaleas, camellias, magnolias and lots more spring-flowering shrubs and trees. It also contains a large portion dedicated to rhododendrons and daffodils.
