Flower Delivery to Aston with Clare Florist
Birmingham is filled with energy and vigour. It has much to offer the visitor in terms of cultural experiences and historical landmarks. However, one notable feature of this place is its “green approach”. Brum has more parks than any other European city. Its territorial area is home to 6 million trees. Efforts in this area have not gone unrewarded either. In fact, it has earned accolades from both the Chelsea Flower Show and National Britain in Bloom awards.
This metropolitan borough in the West Midlands makes a clean sweep of things too! Street cleaners clear up to 1,300 miles of rubbish from the road, on a regular basis. In addition, they also empty 4,000 litter bins.
We’ve talked about Birmingham’s merits. Now, let’s move on to its surrounding districts. One in particular is noted for its football club.
Football Fever
Aston is well known for being the home of Aston Villa F.C. It’s one of the oldest clubs in English football history. It’s also been a major success, competition wise. Below is a list of its impressive credentials:
Seven time winner of the First Division Championship (last won during the 1980-81 season)
Seven time winner of the FA Cup (last won in 1957)
Five time winner of the Football League Cup (last won in 1996)
One of the five English clubs to win the UEFA Champions League
Villa Park has been the club’s home stadium since 1897. It has a seating capacity of 42,682. Here you can see supporters cheering hard for their home team and carrying all sorts of props. This includes banners, hats and sometimes even Aston flowers to give to their idols. In addition to football matches, rugby league games are also played at this venue.
Other Places of Interest
Apart from sports, the district is also known for quite a few old structures. Some are listed below:
Aston Hall
The construction of this Jacobean house took place between 1618 and 1635. Designed by the English architect John Thorpe, it passed into municipal ownership in 1864, the first historic country house to do so. Originally bought by Birmingham Corporation, it remains a property of the Birmingham City Council. Today, it serves as a community museum after a major renovation was done in 2009. It’s open to the public during the summer months.
Parish Church of St. Peter and St. Paul
This medieval church is right next to Ashton Hall. This structure has also gone through a number of renovations. Consequently, little of its original 14th century stonework remains. Among the work done on this place of worship was rebuilding its 15th century steeple, a project headed by John Cheshire in from 1766 to 1767.
Many old monuments can be found in this place, including an alabaster knight and a sandstone lady. However, its main draw is the churchyard that contains 30 war graves of soldiers and airmen who died during the First and Second World War. Don’t forget to bring some of those fresh flowers in Aston to commemorate the efforts of these brave men.
Speaking of pretty blooms, it’s now possible to send flowers to Aston or any other area in the West Midlands even when you’re abroad. A reputable online florist offers a variety of bouquets and basket arrangement to suit any occasion.
