Flower Delivery to Bishopsworth with Clare Florist
Bishopsworth is the name given to both a council ward and suburb in Bristol, with the suburb lying within the ward. Apart from the suburb of Bishopsworth, the same-name ward is also comprised of Bedminster Down, Highridge and Withywood.
Bishopsworth – The Suburb
Formerly a civil parish, the suburb of Bishopsworth is largely residential. Historically, it was the thing of Bishport in the parish of Bedminster in Somerset.
From 1894 to 1898, the rural southern parts of Bedminster became the civil parish of Bedminister Without. This parish was then abolished in 1898 to become parts of the parishes of Bristol and Bishopsworth.
In 1930 and 1933, Bristol absorbed a large portion of the civil parish. However, it was abolished in 1951 when it was mostly absorbed into Bristol.
The ecclesiastical parish of Bedminster Down was established in 1928 as a response to the development in the area. It was created from the north of Bishopsworth. Years after, the ecclesiastical parishes of Hartcliffe and Withywood were also created.
The municipal services of the suburb are run by the Bristol City Council. On the other hand, the Bristol South and West Primary Care Trust manage the local health services.
