Flower Delivery to Penn, Buckinghamshire with Clare Florist

Penn is a picturesque village and parish in the Chiltern district in Buckinghamshire, England. It covers 3,991 acres and contains 4 hamlets. It is home of the amazing Penn Wood, a mixed woodland that showcases beautiful flowers in Penn, with rhododendrons making a vibrant appearance in May.

History

The village of Penn has a special association with the United States. It is where William Penn (1644-1718) was born, an English Quaker who founded the colony of Pennsylvania and placed it in the history books as the basis of the American constitution. Penn goes way back, however.

Its original name was Brythonic that meant hill, probably associated with where the Penn village stands — on a promontory of the Chiltern Hills. Although there are no specific dates on when Penn came about, the charming cottages and houses throughout the place provided evidence of its antiquity. The 12th-century church of the Holy Trinity further enforces the age of the town. If that is not enough, the church is also where a Medieval Doom painting was found.

4 Hamlets

Penn Street

This is one of the villages known for its breathtaking natural beauty, decorated with colourful Penn flowers. Most of it covers a Conservation Area and backs on to a broadleaf woodland that is owned by the Woodland Trust. The houses that line the road are pretty old, with some dating back to the 15th, 17th and 18th century.

Knotty Green

This hamlet lived up to its name, with its large houses featuring picturesque landscape, huge patches of woodland, gorgeous flowers in Penn here and there, and irregular field boundaries. In 1222, Knotty Green was called Nattucas, which was taken from the Old English, nattuc, which means rough grass of tussocks. It got its place on the map in 1680. Several surviving buildings in Knotty Green go as far back as the 15th century, with the timber-framed Baylins Farm dating back to 1450.

Forty Green

Forty Green is the perfect place to commune with nature. It is surrounded by beech woodlands and country lanes that provide a quiet avenue to enjoy leisurely strolls. Walks will take you through meadows filled with wildflowers and other Penn flowers that contribute to the charm of the hamlet. The best time to visit is early summer when everything is ablaze with colour, and butterflies and birds are in abundance.

To fully enjoy this wonderful place, you should sign up for the Forty Green Pub Walk that starts and ends at the Royal Standard of England pub. You can choose between The Pub Stroll and The Longer Walk, stretching at 0.6miles and 2 miles (approximately), respectively.

Winchmore Hill

This hamlet is often confused with the district in London with the same name. An unusual feature of Winchmore Hill is the triangular green found on its heart, where 20th-century houses are built around it. A fête is also held regularly on the same spot.

A quaint village, such as Penn, provides the perfect venue for a much-needed getaway. If your idea of a holiday is to spend time with nature, this is the where you should be heading.
