Flower Delivery to Little Abington with Clare Florist

Little Abington makes up one half of The Abingtons – a community in South Cambridgeshire – with the other being Great Abington. Both villages lie on either side of the River Granta and both also lie on the historic easterly route from Cambridge to Colchester. The Roman route that ran from London to Norwich – which is now the A11 – bounds them on the western side.

HISTORY

In the early stages of the nineteenth century, a large part of the land was owned by the lord of the manor who owned Abington Hall. This was at a time when parliamentary inclosure took place in both parishes. There were not that many changes throughout the 19th century as most of the cottages remained in the ownership of the estate. However, things changed when Abington Hall Estate was sold in 1929.

Many of the cottages were sold and a lot deteriorated as well. Before and after the Second World War, a lot of Council houses were built. Over the years, a lot of new housing estates have been built on the land as it has become a desired residence for those who work in Cambridge.

To this day, the lands are still mainly agricultural.
