Flower Delivery to Aberarth – A Small Seaside Village in Ceredigion, Wales
The seaside village of Aberarth is located towards the southern end of Cardigan Bay. The village is situated between Aberystwyth and Cardigan. And just as its name suggests, the village is located at the mouth of the River Arth. In addition, Aberarth lies on the A487 coastal road.
HISTORY
The village of Aberarth has some historical significance as it was founded around the time of the Norman invasion. Dinerth Castle, a Welsh castle also known as Hero Castle, was built by the Normans up the river valley. Cistercian monks also used the area as a seaport during the 12th century to import “Bath Stone” from Bristol for use in the construction of Strata Florida Abbey on land that was granted to them by The Lord Rhys.
About half a mile to the south of the village is the Llanddewi Aberarth Church which is located on a hill. This church is said to have been built on the site of an earlier 9th-century church. The current parish church features a Norman tower while the rest of it was rebuilt in 1860 during the Victorian era. Also within the walls of the church (inside the front door) is the only Viking hogsback stone that was found in Wales.
Before 1850, Aberarth was involved in shipbuilding but it eventually faded when the industry declined.
