Flower Delivery to South Petherwin, Cornwall with Clare Florist
Located in East Cornwall, South Petherwin is a civil parish and village that is bounded by the St Thomas and St Mary Magdalene Launceston parishes to the north, the parishes of Lawhitton and Lezant to the east, and by the parish of Trewen to the west. It is one of the villages in the UK with a rich history and an equally rich landscape of green and colourful South Petherwin flowers.
History of South Petherwin
This village was dedicated to St Paternus, along with the North Petherwin parish, although it was unsure as to which saint was referred to, because of the many candidates that caused confusion over the years. It is believed, however, that St Paternus is the father of St Constantine of Cornwall, especially because both saints are closely linked with each other. Under the rule of the Saxons, both North and South Petherwin flourished and began to dominate. The new monastery of St Stephens was installed in North Petherwin, and the South Petherwin south of the Kensey.
When the Normans invaded, their first step was to suppress the control of West Saxon, and they did so by reducing St Stephen as a monastery with the priory moved to Newport. It was also at this time that South Petherwin became the mother Church for Launceston.
