HISTORY
The village of Ludworth used to be a mining community. It was a source of employment with around 300 people given jobs at the mine.

Ludworth Tower – this used to be a medieval manor house that was founded by the de Ludworth family. Cardinal Langley allowed Thomas Holden to add a rectangular pele tower in 1422. Today, the only surviving parts of the tower are the barrel-vaulted basement, the three-storey west wall and fragments of a first-floor spiral stair located on the south wall. The remains of the tower can be seen as you enter the village from Shadforth.
