Flower Delivery to Denbighshire by Clare Florist

Denbighshire is known as being the oldest inhabited part of Wales. In fact, remains of Neanderthals dating from around 225,000 years ago or so are found in the Pontnewydd Paleolithic site. The county is also home to several castles such as the Denbigh Castle, Rhuddlan Castle, Ruthin Castle, Castell Dinas Bran and the Bodelwyddan Castle. One of the smallest cathedrals, St Asaph, is also found here.

Located in the northeast of Wales, Denbighshire is a mix of medieval delights and coastal beauty. Rhyl and Prestatyn are two towns with really lovely sandy beaches. Although both make for great seaside holidays, Rhyl is full of activity from day to night while Prestatyn is more relaxed. Denbighshire also has several medieval sites and buildings which survive to this day. Apart from the coast and medieval sites, Denbighshire is also blessed to have the Clwydian Range (marked by a chain of purple heather-clad summits) and Dee Valley.

History

Under the Local Government (Wales) Act 1994, the present principal area was formed on 1 April 1996. It was formed from various parts of the county of Clwyd. Denbighshire included the district of Rhuddlan, the communities of Trefnant and Cefn Meiriadog from the district of Colwyn and most of the Glyndwr district.

Parts of Glyndwr district included the entirety of the former Edeyrnion Rural District - which prior to 1974 was part of the administrative county of Merionethshire – which covered the following parishes: Betws Gwerfil Goch, Corwen, Gwyddelwern, Llangar, Llandrillo yn Edeirnion and Llansanffraid.

Attractions

Bodelwyddan Castle – is set in 260 acres of parkland and is open to the public throughout the year. It is both a historic house and an accredited museum. An audio tour is available so you can get more information. Other than the historic structure, the place also boasts of large areas devoted to a formal garden and natural woodland. Whether you want to see flowers in Derbighshire or have fun with interactive exhibits which included emailing a photograph of yourself dressed in Victorian costume, a visit to the castle is a must.

Denbigh Castle – was a fortress that was built after the conquest of Wales by Edward I in the 13th century. The castle stands on a rocky promontory. The most striking feature about the castle is its triple-towered great gatehouse.

Bodrhyddan Hall
– is a 17th century red brick house that serves as the home of Lord Langford, whose family has been occupying it for more than 500 years. Surrounding he house are a mix of formal and informal gardens. The Victorian parterre which is a sight for some Denbighshire flowers was designed by architect William Nesfield. The place also features yew paths, woodland walks, a walled kitchen garden and several small ponds.

Rhuddlan Castle – was built by Edward I after the First Welsh War in 1277.

Ruthin Castle – is a medieval castle fortification that was constructed during the late 13th century by Dafydd, brother of Llywelyn II.
