Flower Delivery to Hartington with Clare Florist
Hartington is a beautiful village of England, in the Derbyshire Peak District and lies on the River Dose close to the Staffordshire border. Hartington is a village of approximately 400 people, lying in the centre of the White Peak in a relatively agricultural area. The scenery in and out of this charming limestone village is outstanding.
The village has been important since the Middle Ages due to the production of high-quality cheese and the mining of ironstone, limestone and lead. However, the village has gained more popularity compared to the past because of its beautiful scenery and rapid development.
The name ‘Hartington’ has been derived from the Old English for either ‘Stags’ hill’ or ‘hill connected with Heorta’ according to the English Place-Name Society. The village has been mentioned in the Doomsday Book. The village is said to be founded in the 6th or 7th century as a farming settlement. The village was built around a knoll overlooking a flat area and blessed with water resources. Hartington gained a market charter from the King John in 1203.
The Hartington Hall was established in 1611 which was converted as a Youth Hostel in the 20th century. A market was created on the flat area below the knoll which became a huge local centre for Hartington making it famous amongst the masses. Hartington was the benchmark for high-quality cheese, particularly Stilton Cheese, and gradually gained popularity over the decades.
The village is an ideal location for outdoor activities. Cycling is famous amongst the inhabitants of Hartington. Several former railway tracks have been converted into trailing tracks for people who enjoy cycling and walking.
People enjoy rock climbing near the Dovedale and the Manifold Valley. As the valley is based on limestone peaks, the tracks are relatively steep and the climbing is done in the upper grades. There are locations present where people can practice paragliding and hang-gliding as well.
Fishing is a famous outdoor activity for the people of Hartington. People practice fishing on the banks of River Dove and enjoy the lush green scenery simultaneously.
Hartington hosts most events to promote the greenery and flowers of this mesmerizing village. Flower Festivals were hosted in 2014 and 2015 displaying the beautiful colours of different flowers which grow all over the village. The events blossomed, attracting a huge crowd including both residents and tourists.
The Hartington Hall is a beautifully designed building and now holds the Youth Hostel. The building was established in the Medieval Ages and reflects the history of England.
Dovedale is one of the major attractions for the tourists visiting Hartington. Many other attractions such as the Thor’s Cave and Arbor Low have helped Hartington to gain popularity in the tourism industry.
