Flower Delivery to Dunragit with Clare Florist

Located on the A75 between Stranraer and Glenluce, Dunragit is situated within the parish of Old Luce in the traditional county of Wigtownshire. It is located in the south-west of England and the modern village grew up around the west gate of Dunragit House, which is an 18th-century country house. There is also evidence of a Neolithic settlement in the area.

HISTORY

The name Dunragit is said to be derived from Din Rheged which means “Fort of Rheged” and refers to the Brythonic kingdom of Rheged which existed in the northern part of Britain between the 5th and 8th centuries.

It's also possible that Dunragit was one of the royal sites used by the kings of Rheged. It was also suggested that it was the site of King Arthur's northern court, Pen Rhionydd, which is recorded in the medieval Welsh Triads.

Archaeological excavations in the area between 1999 and 2002 unveiled complex Neolithic monuments. Although nothing can be seen above ground, aerial photographs show an early Neolithic cursus monument, as well as remains of three later Neolithic concentric timbre circles which date to around 2,500 BC.
