Flower Delivery to Aberlady, East Lothian with Clare Florist

flower delivery to aberlady with clare floristSituated on the coast of East Lothian, which is in itself quite a lovely sight, Aberlady has no doubt something of beauty on its own. The village is home to the excellent Kispindie links course and stretching east to Gullane and beyond are fairways and greens.

The shore is equally lovely as well, especially as during the autumn when geese make it their refuge. Given the wonderful combination of marshes, beach and the rocky coast of the Firth of Forth, you can always make Aberlady your romantic getaway of choice. With such an impressive setting, all you need to bring to complete your date is some Aberlady flowers.

HISTORY

During the Middle Ages, Aberlady was an important harbour. Through a 1633 Act of Parliament, it was designated as “Port of Haddington.”

However, the history of Aberlady stretches far back than this.

From the 7th century, Aberlady had strong connections to the monasteries located at Iona and Lindisfarne. The role of the village was to facilitate the pilgrim traffic between the two sites.

There were traces of a Culdee chapel in the area as found out during archaeological excavations. Pope Gregory X also made a reference to the church which he referred to as “Aberlefdi.” The fragment of the 8th century Aberlady Cross is housed at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.

The Aberlady Parish Church was built during the 15th century. It was merged with Gullane in 1986 with the Manse now in Gullane.

A community-led project called the Aberlady Heritage Project surveyed three sites in 2008: the medieval harbour commissioned in 1535, the Iron Age fort and its associated souterrain located at Kilspindie and the Anglo-Saxon site found in Glebe.

Aberlady has the largest collection of stray Anglo-Saxon items discovered in Scotland.
