Flower Delivery to Govan by Clare Florist
Govan sits on the south bank of the River Clyde. It is a district in the South West of Glasgow, Scotland. Medieval legend states that Constantine, a 7th century King of Strathclyde, founded a monastery under the rule of Columbanus in Govan. Also, during medieval times, the town was also the site of a ferry that linked it to Patrick for seasonal cattle drovers.
During the 18th and 19th century, coal mining and textile mills were important. Shipbuilding emerged as the principal industry in the early 19th century. During that time, Govan also lost its rural appearance and assumed the character of a town thanks to the development of new industries and factories.
Govan gained burgh status in 1864 and was the fifth largest burgh in Scotland. In 1912, it was incorporated into the city of Glasgow. At one point, Govan was known across the world as the centre of the world-renowned Clydeside shipbuilding industry.
Elder Park is a site where you can see beautiful flowers in Govan as well as statues dedicated to the Elders, who had greatly contributed to the town's shipbuilding industry. It was established in 1885 by Isabella Elder as a monument to her shipbuilder husband. She envisioned the place as where people can enjoy “healthy recreation by music and entertainment.”
Apart from seeing the lovely Govan flowers that can be seen in Elder Park, there are other parks and open spaces located in and around Govan that can be explored:
Auchinlea Park – This is located at the edge of Easterhouse on the outskirts of Glasgow. The main attractions here are two A-listed buildings, the Provanhall House & Blochairn.
Alexandra Park – This is popular with residents and the rest of the community. It is pleasant and well laid out and has a small formal rose garden.
Glasgow Botanic Gardens – This is known the world over for their architecturally impressive glasshouses and the extensive collection of temperate and tropical plant collections.
LANDMARKS & ATTRACTIONS
The Govan Stones. These are located in the Govan Old Parish. They are early medieval carved stones that date from the 9th to 11th centuries. They commemorate the power of those who ruled the Kingdom of Strathclyde.

Riverside Museum. This is Scotland's Museum of Transport and Travel and is based on the banks of the River Clyde, which is directly across central Govan. There are more than 3000 items inside the state-of-the-art building which was designed by Dame Zaha Hadid.
Given the really old feel of the town, it makes for a great place to head out on a romantic date. You can start the date right when you send flowers to Govan to delight your partner. You can then spend the rest of the day getting to know the history behind this lovely town.
