Flower Delivery to Kinross-shire with Clare Florist

Shires are no longer used for local government purposes since 1975 after the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 was enacted. One of these is Kinross-shire, located in the eastern portion of Scotland.

Kinross-shire is a historic county, one of the 33 traditional Scottish counties. It is also historical for what lies at its heart: Loch Leven. An island on the loch contains Lochleven Castle, which has seen both royal visitors and royal prisoners, most famously Mary, Queen of Scots, in its time.

Not only does Loch Leven have connections to famous characters of the past, it is the home of an important nature reserve.

History

The removal of the parishes of Kinross and Orwell from the Fothriff area of Fife in the 13th century paved the way for the formation of the shire of Kinross. Local government in Scotland evolved and as such, the shire gained a county council in 1890. The council was later united with Perth County Council under the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1929.

In the 19th and 20th centuries, residents migrated to the cities to find work leading to a decline in the population of the county. The decline was further hastened by railway closures after the Second World War.

The area has since become more prominent thanks to the construction of the M90 motorway. Visitors to the area come to see Loch Leven and enjoy the unspoiled country villages and rolling hills.

Kinross-shire is part of the council area of Perth and Kinross.

Attractions

Going on a romantic holiday to places with unspoilt beauty is generally a good idea, and the historic county of Kinross-shire offers just that. You can present your date with Kinross-shire flowers or just take in the wonderful views.

Seeing more flowers in Kinross-shire is also one way of enjoying a romantic outing, and there are a few located around the area. Branklyn Garden in Perth is an attractive two-acre space that features rare and unusual plants, mostly from Bhutan, China, Tibet, and the Himalayas.

Another garden to visit is the 2.4-hectare Cluny House Gardens in Aberfeldy. The garden houses beech trees, conifers, and oaks. It also overlooks the Strathtay Valley.

While there are many worthy sites to visit, Lochleven Castle is a must visit for its wonderful history. This was the setting of Mary, Queen of Scots’ imprisonment before she made her escape to England, never to come back to Scotland.

The castle can be reached by boat, much like what Mary, Queen of Scots did back in the day, as visitor and later, prisoner. Her first visit in 1561 was as a guest of Sir William Douglas. Her last stay in 1567 to 1568 was as his prisoner.

Unlike Mary, Robert the Bruce’s two visits in the 14th century to the castle were purely as a guest.
