Flower Delivery to Adlington – A Small Town and Civil Parish in Lancashire, England

With the West Pennine Moors and the town of Chorley located nearby, Adlington is surely a fun place to be in. Also located six miles north-west of the town is Bolton. In 1842, Adlington became a separate parish then it grew into a town thanks to textile and coal mining industries. However, these closed down in the 1960s.

Despite that, Adlington is still a thriving town and it has some great features such as the Leeds and Liverpool Canal (which runs through the village) and the Rivington Pike (part of the West Pennine Moors that overlooks the town).

HISTORY

Because of the presence of “ington” in the town's name, it shows that Adlington was settled by the Anglo Saxons around 650 AD. The “Ad” portion is believed to be a first name, probably Eadwulf.

The manor of Adlington was once part of the Penwortham barony that was granted to Randle de Marsey. The popular industry in town was coal mining and it was so for centuries. Cotton mills were also a fixture in Adlington but since then these industries have disappeared.

Today, Adlington is mostly a residential area for commuters who work in Manchester, Bolton, Wigan and Chorley.
