Flower Delivery to Barnoldswick with Clare Florist

Barnoldswick, colloquially known as Barlick, is one of those places in the UK that offers an amazing landscape of green dotted with flowers in Barnoldswick. Situated in Lancashire in the heart of England, it is a town that is quaint, quirky, colourful and full of life. It also has one of the longest place names in the UK that does not use the same letters twice!

This town and civil parish has been in existence since the Anglo Saxon times. In the Domesday Book, it was listed as Bernulfsuuic that means Bernulf's Town. In 1147, a Cistercian monastery was founded in Barlick by monks from the Fountains Abbey, but was left unfinished when the monks left after 6 years. For centuries Barnoldswick was a small village, until the Leeds and Liverpool Canal arrived. The railway then spurred its growth and the development of the woollen industry. Barlick went on to become a major cotton town.

One of the evidence of its rich history is the engine of the last mill to be built in town that is still operational. The 600 hp steam engine has been preserved in Bancroft Mill and is now one of the tourist attractions. Another one is the stone-built streets that surround a traditional town centre.

As a village with open countryside that are just a walk away, exploring the area on foot is everyone’s favourite pastime, as well as smelling the fragrant Barnoldswick flowers.

Letcliffe Park

When taking a walk at the Letcliffe Park, you will see a single tree standing atop the hill, a ruined cottage, a meadow filled with buttercup, and a pasture where sheep and lambs graze. Depending on where you started, you will pass by Hodge Lane, Moor Side, Folly Lane and Forty Steps.

Greenberfield Locks

Greenberfield Locks is perfect for when you want to go on a short walk. You can start and end your walk with refreshments at the Lock Stop cabin. There’s a good circuit that you can follow, which will take you north along the towpath. Since you will be passing over fields, be sure to wear shoes that can withstand the mud. Greenberfield is the perfect spot to be surrounded with flowers in Barnoldswick, while watching the sunset.

Barnoldswick Beach

During August, when the tide rises and brings with it sand and sea right into the middle of the town, the square turns into Barnoldswick Beach, the best inland beach in Britain. Since an inland beach is a rarity, the summer holiday attraction brings tens of thousands in the town of Barnoldswick. A covered beach area and other beach activities are provided during these times. Some of the things that can be done include donkey rides, treasure trails, and an arts and crafts corner. All activities are free, although visitors are invited to make a donation.

Barnoldswick Clock

The Barnoldswick Clock may not be as grand or as popular as Big Ben, but it is unique in its own way. Rather than numbers, Pamela Oddie, a local resident, suggested to use the letter in the town’s name. As Barnoldswick has 12 letters without any repetition, the idea worked just fine.
