Flower Delivery to Darwen with Clare Florist
There is no doubt that Darwen is stunning. Bordering the West Pennine Moors, you are treated to jaw-dropping views as you go along the area's many pathways. And whether you like seeing flowers in Darwen or admiring old structures, you'll find something to like with a visit to this Lancashire town.
History
The area around Darwen can trace its history back to the Bronze Age. Several artefacts from the period have been unearthed, including a bronze dagger and urns with human ashes (which are now at the Darwen Library Theatre). While there exists some evidence of Roman occupation in the area, evidence of habitation during the Middle Ages is scant.
Many Lancashire towns were involved in texture manufacture during the Industrial Revolution, Darwen included. The 19th century brought rail links and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.
Most of the town was built between 1850 and 1900 and the arrangement of structures such as town hall, market, and public transport are very much like those seen in Northern England.
Attractions
With a history that stretches way back, Darwen is sure full of things to see. Not only that, its location near the West Pennine Moors makes it a great destination for those who love seeing Darwen flowers and the outdoors.
Several landmarks dot the town, and one of these is the Darwen Jubilee Tower. It was built to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria and is also the best place to go when you want to see a view of Darwen and the Moors. Taking the spiral staircase to the top provides you with a view of the Isle of Man, North Wales, the Furness Peninsula, and the Blackpool Tower.
At the corner of Knott Street and School Street stands the Darwen Library. Commissioned by Andrew Carnegie in response to an appeal by the Library Committee. It was designated a Grade II listed building in 2017.
The 19th century Darwen Town and Market Hall are also worth the visit. It is also the location of the town's bus station and three-day market.
Darwen is also home to Bold Venture Park, located in the west portion of town and at the foot of the moors. It is right in the path that leads to the Darwen Tower. Another park in the area is Sunnyhurst Woods which was originally used for hunting stag but was turned into a public park in 1903 to commemorate the coronation of Edward VII.
Transportation
Located along the A666 road, considerable traffic passes through the centre of the town. Its railway station has a train every hour between Clitheroe and Manchester. The bus terminal has buses to Blackburn/Accrington on weekdays, while weekend trips to Bolton and Clitheroe are also offered on weekends.
