Flower Delivery to Appleby Magna with Clare Florist
Appleby Magna lies on the edge of the ancient boundary between the Kingdom of Mercia and the Danelaw. It's a village and civil parish located in north-west Leicestershire.
Taken into account historically, the village was one of the wealthiest parishes in Leicestershire. This is evidenced by the presence of a large church, but even if this was the case, the village has always remained fairly small.
Appleby Magna is the kind of destination where people would want to head to when they want some peace and quiet. In particular, couples may find this the ideal destination for a romantic getaway. When you decide to go this route, make sure to get your date some flowers in Appleby Magna so your trip will spell romance throughout.
HISTORY
Evidence proves that Appleby Magna was settled in as early as the Neolithic period. In 1966, pre-historic pottery was found during an archaeological dig.
At the eastern portion, close to the White House Farm, lies an Iron Age site. A Bronze Age site also exists in the eastern side of the parish.
Evidence of a Roman villa or farm, as well as a Roman temple was found here. During the construction of Appleby Fields, a 4th century British-Romano farm was discovered right next to junction 11 of the M42.
The village was part of the Saxon Kingdom of Mercia, and is located about 8 miles from the capital, Tamworth.
During the late Middle Ages, the de Appleby family – who took their name from the village – were Lords of the Manor Appleby; a position which they held from the 12th century until the 16th. Their downfall came during the Tudor era where Sir George de Appleby was killed after the Battle of Pinkie Cleugh. Joyce, his wife, was burned in Lichfield for being a Protestant Martyr. In 1549, their eldest son George sold that manor and later drowned. His nephew, Francis (son of his brother Richard), dies without issue thereby ending the male line of the de Appleby family.
The Tudor Era also marked the entry of the next influential family in the village: the Moores. 1599 marks the year that Charles Moore was hailed as the Lord of the Manor of Appleby Parva. The exact date of his arrival is unknown. They were influential in the village until the 20th century.
Appleby Magna experienced growth during the Georgian and Victorian Times. This was marked with the construction of several houses and the establishment of farms, chapels and a school.

Saint Michael's and All Angels' Church – has been a site of religious devotion since antiquity. St Helen's Chapel – known as the de Appleby Chapel – is the earliest surviving building of the village.
The Moat House – originally meant to be a manor house for Appleby Magna. It was the home of the de Appleby family.
Dormers Hall – little is known about this structure, except that it was the home of the Dormer family during the 16th century.
