Flower Delivery to Broadholme – A Village and Civil Parish in the West Lindsey District of Lincolnshire
Broadholme is located about five miles west from the city of Lincoln (also a county town) and around one mile south from A157 and the Saxilby village. The village of Broadholme is located in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire. Historically part of Nottinghamshire, the village was transferred because it can't be accessed from any road in Nottinghamshire without passing through Lincolnshire. Also, Broadholme is located much closer to Saxilby, which is a village in Lincolnshire, compared to Harby which is the closest village in Nottinghamshire.
HISTORY
A female priory once existed in Broadholme: the Premonstratensian Broadholme Priory. This was founded sometime after 1154 and was located adjacent to the village. Along with the Oxford Priory, the Broadholme Priory was the only one of two female priories in England. It was dissolved as part of King Henry VIII's Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1536. The site where the priory once stood is now Manor Farm.
Broadholme was originally part of Nottinghamshire but the Local Government Boundary Commission suggested it be moved to Lincolnshire in 1986. Many disagreed with the transfer as they liked the “superior refuse service” as well as the higher standard of schools and the mobile library service they enjoyed in Nottinghamshire. Despite protests, action was taken in moving the village from Nottinghamshire to Lincolnshire. Although those already enrolled in Nottinghamshire schools were allowed to continue there, other benefits provided by the Nottinghamshire County Council or Newark and Sherwood District Council were lost. Broadholme officially became part of Lincolnshire in 1989.
