Flower Delivery to Holton-le-Clay with Clare Florist
Holton-le-Clay is a village and civil parish located in the northernmost part of the East Lindsey district and is a part of Lincolnshire in England's East Midlands region. It covers more than 1,500 acres and is situated five miles south of the town of Grimsby and 150 north of London.
The History of Holton-le-Clay
Archaeologists who explored the area have found signs of life during the prehistoric and Roman times, and they've also uncovered earthworks that date back to the Medieval Ages. Holton-le-Clay appeared in the Domesday Book in 1086 (in which it was recorded as “Holtone”) as well as in Kelly's Directory in 1885. Over the years, its manor fell into the hands of different owners, from men named Swein and Thorgisl to one called Ivo Taillebois and eventually to the Duchy of Lancaster.
Holton-le-Clay began to see development over time. A Wesleyan chapel was constructed in 1827 and a Primitive Methodist was put up nine years later, around 1836. The village went on to have two railway stations, Holton-le-Clay railway station and Holton Village Halt. Both of them were part of the East Lincolnshire Railway but are no longer used nowadays.
Holton-le-Clay Today
Holton-le-Clay is a semi-local village and, even though it now has a population of more than 5,000 people and has been modernised over the years, it still has retained its rustic, countryside charm. If you decide to spend your holiday in this lovely area, you can reach it by taking the A16 (the road between Grimsby and Louth) or by catching a Stagecoach Lincolnshire bus.
Once you arrive, make sure to check out the village's gorgeous listed buildings. One of these is the Holton Lodge farm house, which is dated back to the 1800s. Another is St. Peter's Church, an Anglican church that's considered to be a Grade II-listed structure. It was repaired and restored in 1850 as well as in 1868, but it has still kept its original tower, nave arch and chancel (all of which seem to date from the Saxon or early Norman times).
If you visit at the right time, you'll come across several festivals that create an exciting and lively atmosphere while bringing both locals and tourists together. One such event is Holton Rocks, which showcases the talents of tribute acts and independent artists and caters to every one of all ages. It's a must-see if you're a music lover or just want to have a fun night out with your travel companions. Another event is the summer fair, wherein you can explore stalls selling jewellery and other items, speak with the sellers to learn more about their arts and crafts, enjoy delicious local food and drinks and mingle with the other visitors.
If you're holidaying in Holton-le-Clay with your little kids, make sure to visit the local Junior Playing Fields. They have a new climbing frame as well as other play equipment that will surely excite your children and encourage them to run around, exercise their muscles and just have fun. Don't forget to check out 8 Acres Playing Fields, where you can go for walks or ride bikes.
