Landmarks/Attractions
There are many historical sites and other places of cultural interest in Little Cawthorpe that you will enjoy exploring. Aside from the beauty of Cawthorpe flowers, you will definitely find these landmarks and attractions fascinating:
· St Helen’s Church
Constructed with colourful stone and brick in 1861, this charmingly simple Victorian Gothic church consists of only a small nave, a south porch, a small chancel and an elegant little wooden spire. During the Victorian period, this church was seen as a perfect example of a modest parish church, with the interior lavishly lit with stained glass with rich colours and a design emulating a 14th-century Gothic building. In 1996, it was declared redundant and is no longer used for regular congregations. Today, it is being cared by the Churches Conservation Trust.
· The Manor House
A house that dates back to 1673, this small red-brick country manor already had some 20th-century additions and alterations. This is now a grade II listed building, including the gate piers to the house, which also dates back to the same year mentioned above. However, the wrought iron gates are already of the 20th century.
· The Village Public House
This is a 17th-century royal oak pub, with access to the Kenwick Park Golf Club where you can also enjoy a wide range of flowers in Cawthorpe.
· Rushmoor Country Park
Though this park is seen by many as the perfect place for family holidaymakers, it is actually a place for everyone. Here, you will find a lot of animals, including micro-pigs. You can also take a walk in its herb and flower garden, while watching the golden and ghost koi swimming around its peaceful pond. You can also see some great birds of prey, including hawks, owls and falcons here.
· Claythorpe Watermill & Wildfowl Gardens
Here, you will find more than 500 wild bird species wandering freely within the mill’s vicinity. As for the mill itself, it has an area that is filled with memorabilia that are related to agriculture and, of course, milling. In its “enchanted woods” area, you can picnic or just go for a stroll.
Events
A place that is rich in culture and history, Little Cawthorpe holds special events that are interesting for both young and old. These include art and exhibitions, community events, fairs, festivals and many more.
