Flower Delivery to Louth with Clare Florist
Lying on the eastern edge of the Wolds, Louth is a busy Lincolnshire market town characterized by a maze of narrow streets and mostly Georgian and early Victorian architecture. That said, lovers of old structures would surely enjoy a visit here. It could even be quite the romantic trip just looking at different architectural styles of old. And if going for that option, don't forget to present some Louth flowers to your partner as a way of setting a romantic tone for the rest of the trip.
History
There is evidence of Louth being inhabited since the Paleolithic Era as evidenced by the discovery of handaxes in the wolds surrounding Louth.
In the 1770s, Louth became a major trading area thanks to the building of a canal that became a major thoroughfare. The town already prospered from the wool trade and the addition of the canal added more wealth.
In 1920, the river and canal flooded leading to the destruction of large areas of Louth and resulted in the death of more than 20 people. Following the opening of the railway, the town experienced a period of decline and the waterway was closed in 1924.
Today, the 18th-century wool warehouse located at the end of the canal is a restaurant and public meeting place which also features a display of the canal.
Attractions
Louth has a lot of attractions that will suit any interest, and here's a look at them:
The Town Centre – much of the structures in the centre are brick buildings dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries.
Louth Museum – has two back-lit replicas of William Brown's Panorama of Louth. Other than that, the museum also features exhibits, memorabilia and paintings that showcase the history of Louth.
Louth Town Hall – constructed in 1854 by the Mayor and Burgesses of Louth.
St James' Church – the most famous landmark in town. The church is mostly 15th-century Gothic, and it's most remarkable feature is its 295-feet high tower hexagonal squire which is visible for miles around.
Westgate House – a Grade II listed property that was once used by the Louth Girls' Grammar School. It suffered a period of dereliction but efforts were made to restore the structure.
Hubbard's Hills – one of the main attractions of the town which is dedicated in memory of Annie Pahud, the central figure of a historic yet tragic love affair. The place is popular for picnics, and if you'd like to have one here with your date, make sure to get some flowers in Louth to present to them to make the event more romantic. If not, you can always send flowers to Louth to your accommodation instead.
