Flower Delivery to Oxton with Clare Florist
Thanks to its close proximity to the city of Liverpool , Oxton was once one of the most affluent areas in England. Plus, it is also a favourite residential area of wealthy merchants and tradesmen from Liverpool.
However, two wars changed everything and the once elegant houses that dotted the town were transformed into flats. However, the distinctive features of Oxton still remain.
HISTORY
Oxton is included with Eastham in the Domesday Survey. It was held by Hugh de Mara which then passed by way of his brother to the barons of Montalt. Under the Domvilles of Brimstage, a younger line of the Montalt family, Oxton became a separate manor during the 13th century. The manor then passed to the other Cheshire families – the de Holes of Raby and the Troutbecks of Dunham – through the marriage of the female heirs.
George Talbot, 4th Earl of Shrewsbury, was conveyed the manor after Sir John Talbot of Albrighton – his first cousin – wed Margaret Troutbeck. In 1619, a grandson of Sir John Talbot entered the line of earls as the 9th when his predecessor died without any children. The manor remained under successive earls until 1990 when the 22nd Earl put up the manorial title for sale by auction.
The link to the Shrewsbury family is seen in many road names around town – names which are derived from subsidiary titles: Alton, Chetwyn, Ingestre, Shrewsbury, Talbot, Waterford and Wexford.

The Arno – a small park located in Storeton Road near Oxton Fields. Thanks to the work of The Friends of the Arno and Oxton Fields, this garden was brought back to excellent conditions. The feature it is best known for is the formal Rose Garden, but it offers much more than that. Other features include a children's play area and walled garden. The garden was awarded a Green Flag status in 2010, which means that the park met the highest standards needed for a public park.
Oxton Fields – an open space located near The Arno. You can even go for a romantic date here if you want. Present your date with blooms – if you can't get one, you can always send flowers to Oxton – and take a walk, have a chat, etc.
