Flower Delivery to Pathhead with Clare Florist
Pathhead is a charming village and conservation area four miles south east of Dalkeith, Midlothian, Scotland. Its population is less than 1000 residents according to the 2011 census. The village had grown since a linen mill was established on the Tyne Water in 1738.
Preston Hall is to the north of the village and was an 18th century country house built for the Duchess of Gordon. The five-arch stone Lothian Bridge was completed in 1831 over the Tyne Water and greatly improved the roads of Scotland. Pathhead is nestled on the direct route from north east England to Edinburgh. The medieval church, Crichton Collegiate Church was built in 1449 and is still standing. A family burial vault, Soutra Aisle, was constructed in 1686.
Two castles worth visiting nearby are Oxenfoord Castle built a mile north of the village in 1794 from a 16th century tower house. The other is Crichton Castle with its long history beginning in the 1400’s, which was once owned by the Earls of Bothwell, one of whom was the third husband of Mary, Queen of Scots.
You would be remiss if you did not finish off your visit by venturing to Vogrie Country Park, just west of Pathhead. The park is quite large and popular for its stunning landscape. It also has a 9-hole golf course.
