Flower Delivery to Aberlour, Moray Scotland with Clare Florist
Situated in Moray, Abelour is a village which lies about 20 km south of Elgin in Scotland. Abelour is basically a tributary of the Spey River and so the parish and village which surround this stream are also known by the same name. However the village of Abelour is also known by the name of Charlestown of Abelour. The village of Abelour was found in 1812 by Mr Charles Grant who renamed this village to Charlestown of Abelour after his son. Traditionally this little town is famous for its whiskey and is considered to be a Mecca for whiskey enthusiasts. The Abelard distillery situated at the confluence of the Spey and Lour rivers, produces the best single malt Scotch whiskey. Another important distillery of this area is the Macallan Distillery. Being a large working distillery it lacks the charm of a small country side distillery but that fact is compensated by a professional tour of the distillery which would take the visitor through the intricate process of whiskey making and end with a tasting.
Abelour is also famous for its orphanage which was founded by Charles Jupp a minister. The Abelour Child Care Trust is still one of the most important charity centres for children in Scotland. This little town is also famous as the birthplace of the much famed Walker’s shortbread. The pure butter shortbread manufactured by Walkers originates from a family recipe developed by Mr. Joseph Walker in 1898. This brand also arranges for New Years Eve celebrations in this village which can be an enjoyable experience. The Fisherton Woods which lies behind the factory is also owned by the Walkers. The Craigellachie Bridge is a beautiful arch bridge made of cast iron, which is located at Craigellachie, near Abelour. Designed by Thomas Telford a civil engineer, this bridge which was built between 1812 and 1814, spans the Spey River nearly 3 km to the north of this town.
The Knockando Woolmill located in the interiors of the Spey Valley is another tourist destination in the village of Abelour. This mill still produces woollen fabrics which are spun on its almost historical looms which are more than 200 years old. The mill which comes with a tourist centre, cafe and shop selling woven products attracts many tourists. Visitors to Abelour should pay a visit to the Linn Falls which can be reached by hiking up a trail which runs right by the Abelour Distillery. Even though the trail can be a bit muddy and the walk a tad exhausting, the scene of the beautiful woods surrounding the Linn Falls is well worth the hike. The Abelour Gardens Caravan Park which sprawls over an area of 5 acre is picturesque Victorian walled garden which abounds in buzzards and red squirrels.
Situated in the heart of the Malt Whiskey Country this garden can serve as an ideal base if you are travelling in a caravan or looking forward to camping. Visitors looking forward to an idyllic holiday can go forward with salmon fishing from the nearby Spey River. The Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival in May continues for a few days offers a variety of whiskey related events which attracts thousands of whisky connoisseurs from all over the world.
