Flower Delivery to North Ayrshire with Clare Florist
North Ayrshire is a council area in Scotland, located on the southwestern coast. It’s bordered by Inverclyde in the north, Renfrewshire in the northeast, East Ayrshire in the east, and South Ayrshire in the south. The area is formed of two similar land mass sizes, with half of it on the coastline and half of it on an island. There are over 135,900 people living here.
Originally it was part of the district of Cunninghame, but was renamed and established in 1996. Headquarters for the council members are in Irvine, which is also the largest town in the area. There are many other towns included in this region, including Beith, Dalry, Skelmorlie, Stevenston, and West Kilbride. The total area of North Ayrshire encompasses 342 square kilometres.
The towns in the northern portion are affluent commuter towns, while industry is focussed on the southernmost towns. In the past, steel and textiles were major industries, but they’re now gone. Tourism is a big industry on Arran and Cumbrae, with many holiday homes and fewer longterm residents. The area continues to grow.
This area also includes the Isle of Arran, which is the largest island in the Firth of Clyde, and the seventh largest in Scotland. The largest village here is Lamlash.
There are many natural areas of interest to tourists visiting this region. Barrmill Park is located in the village of the same name. In 1912 this was a popular place to play quoiting. There is also an old mission hall located on an old map of the time, and a railway bridge to one side.
Irvine Harbour has had a long history dating back to the 16th century in Scotland. There used to be an explosives plant on the River Garnock. As other cities in Scotland gained more sea traffic, business slowed down at Irvine. Today there are no more commercial operations at the port, but you can take your boat or other pleasure craft out for fun in the harbour. There are also places to rent or book a tour.
Located in Irvine is the Eglinton Country Park. This is where the old Eglinton Castle estate, Kilwinning, used to be. The park covers a region of over 400 hectares, most of which are woodlands.
The Ayr and District Flower Show is held every August. This year it was held at the Ayr Racecourse. The Show invited local students to submit logo designs as part of a contest. This year’s focus was on gardening and plants. There was a competition for the different classes of plants, and floral art and bonsai classes, beekeeping, and stands selling related plants, gardening items, and products.
