Cornhill-on-Tweed is a village and parish located in north Northumberland in England and lies along the River Tweed's banks which form the Scottish border. It is about a mile to the east of Coldstream. It used to be known as Cornell in ancient times. Agriculture is the main occupation here because the soil around the area is rich and supports diverse crops from turnips to beans and different kinds of grains. Although, the main settlement of the parish is the village of Cornhill, there are plenty farmsteads spread across the land.

The name Cornhill is derived from ‘corn-haugh’ which was described as a place within the rich cornlands in the 19th century. It was initially part of the county of Durham for political reasons but was separated from it and joined with Northumberland by the act of parliament in 1844. The Anglican church-St. Helen’s Anglican Church is dedicated to St. Helen, the mother of the first Christian emperor, Constantine the Great. It is believed to have been erected in 1802AD after Durham Cathedral acquired the property.  The Cathedral has undergone several reconstruction works. The most recent being the bell tower added in 1840.

In 1837, a school was raised to cater for the education of the young boys and girls in the area. A master’s house was added in 1860. The land for both buildings was provided by the Collingwoods. The school was closed down in 2012.
