Flower Delivery to Staffordshire with Clare Florist
Staffordshire is a county that is surrounded by seven other counties, and is not situated on the sea at all. It’s located in the western midlands part of England, with over 1,120,300 residents. Stoke-on-Trent is the largest city, and is governed separately from the others. The county was set up in 1889. The large river Trent flows through much of the region. There is also an extensive network of canals through the county, including Mersey Canal and Coventry Canal.
The county is served by the West Coast Main Line railway, with many highways: M42 in the southeast, M6 that runs north, and the A5 and A34 that run through the county.
The region has relied on coal mining for its economy, as well as iron ore deposits. Much of the soil is clay. Agriculture didn’t become popular until the past century.
The highest situated village in Staffordshire is called Flash. Its sits on the Staffordshire Moorlands at 463 metres above sea level, and it has claimed the record in 2007 against Wanlockhead. The highest natural point is Cheeks Point.
In 2009, a large stack of Anglo-Saxon gold was found in a field near Lichfield. This is now called The Staffordshire Hoard. It’s been dated to around the 7th or 8th centuries, during the Kingdom of Mercia.
The ruins of the Mow Cop Castle are located on the Staffordshire Moorlands. There isn’t a lot that remains, aside from a tower, gateway arch, and wall. Visitors can get close for photos but aren’t allowed to walk inside due to safety issues.
Much of the county is composed of hills and wild moorlands. The county has two notable forests: the National Forest and the Peak District National Park. Cannock Chase is an "area of natural beauty” to the south. The middle portion of the county is mostly low and flat.
The Stoke-on-Trent National Garden Festival was held at Festival Park in 1986. The manmade park was built over an old mine, resulting in current environmental concerns. Over 300,000 trees were planted in what seemed to be disarray at the time, but soon resulted in woodlands that very closely match natural growth, with trees of different types and species growing beside each other. The park also has an extensive railway network. There is plenty to see and do in the park, including a suspension bridge that offers breathtaking views of the countryside. There is also a public market region, and a cycle path.
Early in June, the Hill Top Flower Festival was held in Biddulph at the local Hill Top Methodist Church. Besides the festival there was also a concert artisan market, and art exhibition.
