Flower Delivery to Gosbeck with Clare Florist

Located in the Mid Suffolk district of Suffolk, Gosbeck is a village and civil parish located about five miles north of Ipswich. The landscape here is flat and suitable for arable cultivation. Two streams cross Gosbeck and converge in the south and lead into the river Gipping which is north-west of Ipswich. The valleys here are what give much variation to the landscape of Gosbeck. Gosbeck Wood, an ancient wood that covers about 25 hectares, is located to the west.

HISTORY

The village of Gosbeck doesn't appear in the Domesday Survey. Even if that is the case, it is highly likely that the area had several manors in its earlier days. At the start of the 14th century, Richard de Gosbeck was lord of the manor and retained the title until his death in 1311.

He then passed ownership to his son, Ralph de Gosbeck. When he dies, John Lampet of Thorndon became owner as he was married to Beatrice, the daughter of Ralph and his heir. Ellen, their daughter, was married to Sir William Jermy.

The son and heir of William Jermy, John, held the manor and in 1343 had a grant of free warren. The land stayed with the Jermy family until the 15th century. Sometime during that century, it passed to Gilbert Debenham and when he died, it passed to his son and heir, Sir Gilbert Debenham, Knt.

The land reverted back to the Jermy family in 1527 as it was included in a fine charged by Robert Norwich against John Jermy and others. The manor then passed to Thomas Bedingfield which then passed to his brother Robert Bedingfield who was succeeded by Sir Edmund Bedingfield. It was Edmund who sold the manor to William Style in 1584.
