Herringswell is a civil parish and village in Suffolk (Forest Heath district). According to a 2005 estimate of total population of areas in Suffolk conducted by Suffolk Country Council, Herringswell had a population of 190. Traces of human presence that were found in this area date back to the Stone Age. The historic Ickneild Way was going through this village too. Even the presence of Romans in this village was confirmed one century ago when an archeological research found mirrors, pots and other items usually used by Romans. It is also interesting to mention that this village didn’t have the same name throughout history. Some of its other names include – Herynggeswell, Haringwell, Hyrningwella and Herningwelle. In the beginning of the 8th century this village became an important center of the fishing industry. Another interesting historical moment is the frequent visits made by Edward, Prince of Wales who went in this area for hunting and also to meet with his mistress actress Ms. Langtry. You can rarely find another small place in England with such a rich history.

Attractions in Herringswell
Herringswell Manor
This large Tudor house was built in the beginning of the 20th on the previous site of the Manor. In 1981 this manor was bought by Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh sect and around 200 followers lived in it. The community left the village in 1985. After that, Shi Tennoji shool bought it, but since there was lack of interest in their school programs they closed the school in 2001. Today this site is converted to luxury apartments.
St. Ethelbert’s Church
This is one of the rare churches in England dedicated to the Saxon Saint – Ethelbert (The King of East Anglia). It has a really interesting square tower that was probably built later, while the front was built in the Norman Era. Although a fire destroyed most of the church in the 19th century, it was rebuilt really fast.
Village Hall
This is another specific building used for village meetings. It was built in 1917 and opened as a Davies Memorial Hall.
