Flower Delivery to Sutherland with Clare Florist
With grandiose beaches, mountains and wildlife which are among the best in Scotland, there is no denying that Sutherland has all the ingredients for a perfect break. Together with Caithness, this place occupies much of the far north of Scotland. It has three coasts: to the north is Strathy that stretches to Tongue to Durness and Cape Wrath; from Cape Wrath to Lochinver in the west; and in the east from Helmsdale to Dornoch.
Although Sutherland is the fifth largest county in Scotland, its inland is very sparsely populated. The area stretches from the Atlantic in the west to the Pentland Firth and across the North Sea. Tall cliffs and deep fjords comprise the sea coasts on the east and north while ragged inlets and sandy beaches define the west and north, respectively.
Rugged mountains are aplenty in Sutherland. Ben Hope is the northernly Munro while the western portion is comprised of Torridonian sandstone underlain by Lewisian gneiss. These make the mountains attractive for hill walking and scrambling, despite being in a remote location.
Lots of fine beaches make up the area of Sutherland too, one being Sandwood Bay which is the only one that can be reached by foot.
Sutherland is an outdoor lovers paradise – it is remote, it's got options for outdoor activities and its not a place tourists would flock to. So, whether you and your loved one love hiking, you're sure going to enjoy the environment in this area. To best experience the beauty of Sutherland, why not book an accommodation nearby so you have a place to rest and refresh? You can even make it a romantic one by buying some Sutherland flowers to present to your love. If you can't, you can always send flowers to Sutherland too.
On your walks, maybe you'll get to see some flowers in Sutherland, some plants and even some wildlife. In fact, it is said that the place was the last one where a native wolf used to roam. However, the last one was shot in the 18th century. That said, other wildlife continued to survive such as the sea eagle, pine marten and the golden eagle.
Also, don't forget to pack binoculars as there are numerous birds that patrol the skies. That and other wildlife that roam the lands such as red deer, seals, minke whales, dolphins and otters. This is not saying that you'll see them straight away. This is why you're urged to not forget to bring binoculars because these species make fleeting appearances, and when they do, you do not want to miss it.
Things to Do
· Spend the day in awe of the Sutherland coastline. This can be done by taking the scenic B869 coast to the Stoer lighthouse. It's a two-mile walk across clifftops to view the Old Man of Stoer sea stack. As an option when getting back to the lighthouse, you can climb the steep Sidhean Moor to get great views of the Assynt mountains and Eddrachillis Bay islands.
· Watch birds on Handa Island. There is a small passenger ferry at Tarbet that takes you across the Sound of Handa in 15 minutes. The island is managed by the Scottish Wildlife Trust and is a breeding ground for guillemots and razorbills.
· Trek to Sandwood Bay Park. Park your car at Blairmore and take the nine-mile round trip to this remote bay. The route passes an open peatland and five remote lochs. The beach here is characterised by undulating sand dunes and is one of the best in Scotland.
· Explore Cape Wrath. This is the north-westernly point on mainland Britain. The place gets its name not from the angry waters but from the Norse word for a turning point. Here, you'll find a Stevenson lighthouse and really gorgeous views. There is no public road access here which means you have to take the ferry that cross the Kyle of Durness then take a mini bus service.
