Flower Delivery to Brierley Hill with Clare Florist

Brierley Hill is a small town located in the Dudley Borough, in the West Midlands county of England. During the 2011 census, over 13,900 residents were counted. It’s close to Dudley and Stourbridge. It’s considered part of the Black Country, and is one of the most industrialized parts of England today. Mostly glass and steel are manufactured here.

The Merry Hill Shopping Centre is located on the former Merry Hill Farm, which was one of the last farms running in the region. One former factory called the Round Oak Steelworks was shut down and also became part of the Merry Hill Shopping Centre, one of the largest shopping centres in the UK. There are plans to create a new town centre for Brierley Hill, encompassing Merry Hill Shopping Centre and the Waterfront Business Park.

The word Brierley is derived from old English. Brer is a place where the briar rose grows, and ley is from leah, meaning a woodland clearing. Most of the town history dates from this side of the 17th century—Industrial Revolution and onwards. This town originally became a settlement around 1748. It was built in the woodland of Pensnett Chase, with an enclosure was built surrounding it. The town was first recorded on a map in 1745 when Stourbridge Canal was also mapped.

Brierley Hill experienced the height of its industries in early 19th century, with collieries, glass works, and iron works factories. The first National school was opened in town in 1835. Along the high street was a market where the townspeople could shop for fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

By early 20th century many factories closed due to the depletion of materials. By the 1980s the town met with significant unemployment. With the redevelopment of town centre, and a plan with the Brierley Hill Regeneration Partnership, there are plans to revitalize the area and create new job opportunities.

The first church built in town was St. Michael’s Chapel in 1765. It became the official parish church in 1842. In 1872 another church was built, St. Mary’s Church. There is also a Buddhist Temple located in Brierley Hill.

Brierley Hill is accessed by the A461, and has a bus station and numerous bus stops allowing residents to easily come and go. There are also numerous bus stops along the High Street. There are plans to bring a railway line back into town, as the closest is at Bradley Heath, one mile southeast.

There are over fifteen playgrounds located in Brierley Hill, with facilities for children and teenagers. There is also plenty of green space, pathways, and open spaces to enjoy fresh air. Brierley Forest Park was officially opened in 1994. It’s been transformed into a wildlife haven, and perfect for walks and nature studies. It flows over 3.20 kilometres of the region.
